Red

With the release of Taylor Swift's new album "Red" (which I happen to be obsessed with!) she is bringing attention to a timeless bold look- RED LIPS. It's a look that requires minimal effort and stunning results. Red lipstick can be intimidating, however, what with the prep and maintenance, so it's important to learn how to do red lips right, whether you want to rock the look every day or save it for a special night out.

To achieve the perfect scarlet kissable lips follow these steps:

Exfoliate lips with a gentle lip exfoliater to ensure conditioned lips and to reduce flaking.
Apply a lip primer.
Then, line lips. Carefully line along the edges of your lip and color in the whole lip with a red liner that matches the lipstick color you will be applying. Lining the outside prevents bleeding and coloring the inside of the lip keeps you from looking to harsh or dated and also helps the lipstick last longer.
Apply the red lipstick of your choice with a lip brush. This will allow you to be more precise when outlining the edges of your lip and make the color adhere thus lasting longer aka fewer touch ups!
Then, if you are going for a dewy look as opposed to matte, apply a red lip gloss to the middle two sections of your lips (cupids bow to lowest fattest part of your bottom lip) also with your lip brush. Applying gloss only to the middle section of your lip makes lips appear bigger.
Lastly, take a Q-tip and dab just a little concealer on the end. Outline your lips with the concealer laced Q-tip. This will clean up any mistakes you may have made and make your lips really pop!

Which red is for me?
For fair skin (complexions with pink undertones) coral red tones look best. They offer a pop of color without being too overpowering.
For medium ( have olive or blue undertones) skin tones true reds to pinky raspberry work beautifully.
For dark skin deep colors like burgundy or warm brick look great as they bring out natural tones in your cheeks and are not too harsh.

*Red lipsticks with blue undertones will make your teeth look whiter.

Taylor's make up artist, Lorrie Turk, breaks the overall look down into three parts:
1. Prep a clean face with primer and apply a natural sheer foundation. Her trick for a polished skin finish is to use a foundation brush to apply her base, then blend out with a sponge.
2. Then, so not as to overpower the lip, she slightly wings out a
jet black eyeliner. She then curls her lashes and brushes on a healthy dose of black mascara.
3. She then lines her lips with a red lip liner (her secret to making the color last all night) and finished with a coat of the perfect crimson lipstick.
